Note: Get a German Shepherd Dog from another country and you increase the chances of it being extremely aggressive.
Performance Breeding Versus Conformation
Everyday I get calls from dog owners who have imported a dog from Europe, South America or the far stretches of the earth. The usual complaint is that the owner has owned a dog of the same breed in the past but it wasn’t so aggressive, hard-headed, or uncontrollable. They call trainers like me because there are very few who will even attempt to train some of these dogs rather yet be successful.
Dog breeding goes back tens of thousands of years yet the United States of America only goes back about 430 years. Foreign laws and opinion are stricter when it comes to breeding. Although they breed show dogs as in the US, they tend to put performance first and foremost. Their champion dogs often have to prove them themselves in trial or work also. ALL show dogs are descendants of the original working dogs. This means Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, St. Bernards, Cane Corsos, Greyhounds, Poodles, Dachshunds, Spaniels and I think you get the picture.
