Training a dog to be aggressive isn’t half as hard as training one NOT to be aggressive.
If you bought a big or aggressive breed of dog for protection it does no good if he/she can’t be near you, around people when it’s time to protect you.

We’ve all heard the saying that “Dog is man’s best friend”. This saying is older than I am and is sometimes misleading. Since original dogs were bred to work as opposed to play it will be helpful in your rearing and training to understand that your dog’s first priority should be to work. It’s this daily task and routine that will help him/her develop into your best friend later.
Work acquaintances can develop into some of the longest and endearing friendships we will ever have. However if one of the workmates does this job diligently and the other just plays all day or does nothing then you can be sure that there will be NO lasting friendship forged from that relationship. Give your dog a job and look forward to a longtime best friend.

Note: herding dogs need lots of exercise.
